What About Bob Lord ?

The Lord Camp is the latest Democratic Campaign to roll out Iraq War rent-a-General Paul D. Eaton.  Eaton came out and endorsed Lord earlier this week and even lended his voice talent to a Lord robo call criticizing Shadegg’s record regarding veteran’s affairs.

Since retiring, Eaton has been an outspoken critic of the Iraq War and President George W. Bush’s Administration (a very popular activity this election season).

He also has appeared on Bill Maher’s show, served as an advisor to Senator Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign, and following Clinton’s concession of the Democratic primary, Eaton joined the campaign appearance circuit in support of Senator Barack Obama’s presidential campaign.

U.S. Army Major General Paul D. Eaton (ret) endorses Bob Lord

PHOENIX — Bob Lord has received the endorsement of U.S. Army Major General Paul D. Eaton (ret), Lord’s campaign announced today.

Eaton served as a commanding general in the Iraq War and continues his work with veterans on the board of advisers of VoteVets.org.

“I am incredibly honored and humbled to have the support of General Eaton, who has served our nation so honorably and been such a powerful advocate for our veterans returning from war,” Lord said. “We must fight tougher and smarter in the war on terror and make sure our veterans and military families receive our complete support.”

Eaton, who comes from a military family, retired from the Army after 33 years of service, including serving in Iraq as the Commanding General of troops who reestablished Iraqi Security Forces.

“America is less secure today because Congressman John Shadegg has not supported our troops and veterans,” Eaton said. “He voted with President Bush to oppose the 21st Century GI bill and voted as well against a $1,500 bonus for our troops in Iraq. Boy the Lord Camp and Army of the 12 Monkey’s must be all worked up in a tizzy this morning following the AZ Republic’s scathing analysis of Lord’s campaign tactics to date. 

From today’s AZ Republic Editorial:

 Really, we thought John McCain was Public Enemy No. 1 for the leaders of the radical left. What with him being the Republican presidential candidate and all. Or, at least, Sarah Palin.

Imagine our surprise at learning the national politician most despised by the far left is none other than Rep. John Shadegg, who represents Arizona’s 3rd Congressional District.

“John Shadegg is the GOP’s topmost conservative in the House,” writes Markos Moulitsas, editor of the most influential far-left Web site in the country, the Daily Kos.

Moulitsas says he is “obsessed” with Shadegg’s re-election race.

“If you want to decapitate the Republican leadership, he’s our best target in the House,” wrote Kos earlier this week, urging followers to raise $100,000 by today for Shadegg’s Democratic opponent, Bob Lord. “I want to rub salt into their wounds.”

There is little doubt that Democrats generally will do well Tuesday. And, if District 3 voters are dissatisfied with Shadegg’s conservative politics, Lord may join a large freshman class of Democrats.

But local voter dissatisfaction is one thing. What Moulitsas seeks has the unseemly scent of wild-eyed vengeance. The fellow is looking for GOP bodies over which to stand.

The Arizona Republic has urged District 3 voters to re-elect Shadegg. As “Kos” himself notes, Shadegg is the “topmost conservative in the House.”

But now we add another reason to support the incumbent: Politics isn’t – or shouldn’t be – blood sport. Re-elect John Shadegg and give an out-of-state political barbarian something to weep about on Election Day.

Ouch.  Double ouch.

If there’s any doubt this hasn’t rubbed salt in the wounds of the already fledgling Lord campaign, check out the insidious and sophmoric comments on AZ Central from “Lord Supporters.”  The response comments illustrate the Editorial’s point perfectly. 

I’m sure it’s probably A-Mart and the Army of the 12 Monkey’s on the message board working overtime, but it’s still funny nonetheless.

Yes, as hard as it is to do, the paranoid folks over at AA actually make the Ron Paul Revolution people look somewhat normal.

Bob Lord was very instrumental in bringing Air America to the Valley.  How instrumental?  Well, he had his own email address with the radio station, was previosuly listed on their website as being responsible for “legal services”, and he even did all of the legal work pro-bono when the station was about to go off the air.  In fact, he and local host Jeff Ferrias headed up the fundraising efforts to sell “pixels” in order to keep Air America on the air here in Phoenix.  No doubt helping Lord hone his fundraising skills and building his liberal base of donors and supporters he so heavily relies on now in his run for Congress.

Too good to be true?  Here’s text from Bob Lord’s interview with Jeff Ferrias from Earth Day earlier this year:

Jeff Ferrias: You’re welcome here, anytime as I’ve said Bob when you want to come on. The website is lord2008.com go on over there and make a contribution. You know Shadegg’s going to have Big Oil money, probably big pharmaceutical money before he‘s done, and the RNC backing him and you know Bob’s running a campaign that’s going to depend on us. Do go pitch in if you can.

And again, I reiterate – Bob was instrumental in the formation of this station. Getting us back on the air after we lost our first liberal station here in town.

Bob was one of those people in those meetings every morning, when we were strategizing how we were going to pull this thing off. He was right there with us every step of the way and did a lot of the legal work pro bono for us to get this thing happening.

Bob is someone I have the utmost respect and I was thrilled to hear that he decided to throw his hat in the ring and challenge John Shadegg and I hope you’ll step up and throw some support his way.

Good for you Bob!  Air America.  Nancy Pelosi.  No, no liberal record here.

Lord of the Lies is reporting that Bob Lord has missed out on some very key votes in his life as a private citizen.

Perhaps he was just “too busy” to participate in those elections.

Now he’s reporting that he’s just “too busy” to debate John Shadegg in a third and final televised debate.

If Bob Lord can’t find the time to vote as a private citizen, and if Bob Lord is too busy to debate John Shadegg before curious voters of Congressional District 3, how will he ever find the time to represent his constituents in Washington if he’s elected to Congress?

Now if only Bob could clone himself….

Bob Lord’s campaign spokestar A-Mart is pointing the finger at the Shadegg camp in a “who’s a bigger chicken?” contest.  Both camps accuse the other of backing out of a third and final televised debate.  Channel 10 claims both men were scheduled for a debate moderated by John Hook.  Lord canceled once, only to reschedule for a later date.  Lord then recently backed out of the make-up debate, citing that he was “too busy.”  Too busy doing what?  hiding?  It’s 60 minutes of your life man.  You have the ability to reach thousands of voters and you chicken out with a little over a week left in the campaign?

The challenger is supposed to want to debate, not the other way around!

It makes no sense.

Maybe it could have something to do with Lord performing so poorly in the first two debates?   I’m not surprised that he refuses to appear for a third.  I’m sure the DCCC tightened the reins on the campaign after seeing his first two performances.  Now, they’re hoping to ride the campaign out in bunker mode and catch a piece of the obama wave.

GOP voter registration continues to slide in District 3

PHOENIX — Republican voter registration in Congressional District 3 took another hit, now having lost 3 percent of voters since 2006 from the party while Democrats and Independents gained voters, the Maricopa County Recorder’s Office announced late last week.

Since October 2006, Republicans dipped to 43 percent from 46 percent, while Democrats and Independents combined jumped from 53 percent to 57 percent, according to the Secretary of State and the Maricopa County Recorder.

The raw numbers show Democrats gained 14,335 voters, Independents gained 14,110 voters and Republicans lost 6,557 voters.

Notice anything fuzzy about this math? 

The spin on these numbers is unbelievable – even by Mad Professor A-Mart standards.  The Lord campaign rounded up the Republican registration numbers (45.8% to 46%) in 2006, then rounded the numbers down to 43% (from 43.5%) in 2008.  Big deal, you ask? 

I’ve never been very good at math, but last time I checked, my 1st grade teacher taught me that you’re supposed to round up to the nearest whole number when you have a 0.5% or higher.  Which, as you probably noticed, Lord & The Army of the 12 Monkey’s conveniently did with the 2006 numbers.  Unfortunately, they forgot the basic rules of math when computing the figures for 2008. 

Why would they do this?  To make the discrepancy between Republican registration figures from 2006-2008 appear to be a wider gap of course.

However, when it comes to counting their own registration figures, they round down Dem+Ind. registration figures in 2006 (53.5% is rounded down to 53%), then round up in 2008 (55.6% is rounded up to 56%). 

And according to my math, R’s gained 2,018 in registration – they didn’t lose voters as the release implies.  

Furthermore, they manage to take credit for the real story here: independent registration is up all across the country because voters are tired of party politics: both Republicans and Democrats.  About 40% of voters registered as independents actually vote.  Compare that to about 60% of registered Republicans who typically turn out to vote.  That number promises to be even higher this year.

Various surveys will tell you Independents break 60 – 40 in favor of Republicans, assuming they even show up to vote.  Let’s assume the opposite is true this election and that Independents break 60-40 in favor of Democrats.  That’s still a 10% + registration advantage for Republicans.
